Hard Slab Vase

Wacky Vase:
Spring 2008
I wanted this vase to be distorted and have curves and movement. One of the criterias for the assignment was to give the piece a texture, however, I only textured half of the vase and carved down the negative space leaving one side completely smooth. The contrast reminded me of Ying and Yang.

Light Box Assignment

Wind and Water:
Spring 2008
I created this in my sculpture class. This piece has a variation of influences. Most importantly I was trying to emphasize god-like power. The woman blowing the winds and the hands tilting the vase containing the waters of the earth reminded me of the depictions on greek pots. Consequently I was listening to the The Yellow Submarine by The Beatles while I was drawing this scene, and decided to use a hot air ballon to emphasize the wind and a sail boat to emphasize the waves.

Cup and Bowl Assignment

Natural Dinnerware:
Spring 2008
My Inspiration for this assignment was trees. I hand textured the cup and bowl with
a wood grate design. To achieve the leaf patterns I found various leaves and rolled them out on clay to leave an imprint and carved over the veins. I used Bean Pot Brown for the Brown Glaze and a mixture of Yellow, Green Blend, and Old Copper for the leaves.

Fall 2007

Heart Shaped Box:
One of my first clay pieces.I was aiming for a tie dye effect
on the box and achieved a lollypopresemblence. It reminds me of the big lollypops from DisneyWorld.

Trees of Life

Fire and Ice:
I styled this piece from the Trees
of Life Criteria: Coil constructed,
candle holders, with the option of
including religious symbols. The
red represents fire, and the blue
represents ice, coexistising and
fusing in the center.

Ceramic Tea Pot Assignment

Chai:
I was inspired by the shape and
design of Japanese tea pots.
I used a green aligator glaze on
the pot and a camel glaze for the
handle with black glaze to accent.
